Dr. Carlos Alarid, PsyD is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with a research emphasis on
professional boxers. Dr. Alarid’s research has explored how an athlete’s primary identity
as a professional boxer along with repetitive blows to the head can play a role in the
fighter’s mental health such as depression, anxiety, addiction, aggression, and mania.
His research has further identified what boxers can do to best cope with adjusting to
retirement. Dr. Alarid received his BA from San Diego State University majoring in
psychology and received his Doctorate degree from Alliant International University-San
Diego. As a trauma psychologist, Dr. Alarid has done extensive work in providing care
to active duty service members diagnosed with PTSD.
Currently, Dr. Alarid’s professional responsibilities consist of working in a primary care
hospital where he treats his individual patients and is the primary supervisor for third
year doctoral students. Additionally, Dr. Alarid manages his own private practice
