PROFESSIONAL BOXING’S FIRST YEAR-ROUND UNANNOUNCED AND RANDOM PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUG TESTING PROGRAM

Las Vegas, Nevada: The World Boxing Council (“WBC”) in association with the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (“VADA”) is proud to announce the formal launching of the Clean Boxing Program (“CBP”). Under the CBP, the top fifteen (15) WBC-rated fighters in each weight class will be subject to random, year-round unannounced testing for performance enhancing drugs (“PEDs”) and other prohibited methods in a program to be administered by VADA.

The WBC, founded in 1963 and presided by the late Dr. Jose Sulaiman for 38 years, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the sport of boxing and implementing safety measures for the protection of all boxers.  The WBC’s and VADA’s common goal is to have a clean sport

No one regulatory body oversees all of professional boxing. At the present time, testing for PEDs is limited and without uniformity from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman and VADA President Dr. Margaret Goodman representing their respective organizations are committed to educate fighters and the boxing community on the dangers and consequences of consuming PEDs. That goal has lead to the implementation of the different facets of the CBP around the world. The CBP also aspires to educate fighters about the benefits of utilizing effective nutrition and training practices.

The CBP offers a multi-tiered approach, beginning with a mandatory webinar entitled “Winning Fair with the Clean Boxing Program.” The webinar will advise fighters about their obligations under the CBP and the required paperwork that must be completed. It will also discuss the CBP/VADA prohibited drug list, PED side effects, and the risks of prohibited supplement use.

Fighters will be given a 90-day window from May 9, 2016 to view the webinar and file their registration and whereabouts forms. Those items, in addition to all policies, procedures and protocols, are available on the WBC web site at http://wbcboxing.com/WBCVADA/  Anti-doping experts and confidential counseling will be available to fighters who enroll in the CBP.

This groundbreaking program is mandatory for all WBC champions and the top fifteen WBC-rated fighters in each weight class. The CBP also has available funds to incorporate any other fighter who enrolls on a voluntary basis.

Each athlete who is tested and other authorized parties under the CBP will receive notification of his or her test results.

Primer Round/Año de pruebas aleatorias antidopaje para identificar sustancias a fin de mejorar el rendimiento

Las Vegas, Nevada: El Consejo Mundial de Boxeo ( “WBC”) en colaboración con la Asociación Voluntaria  Anti Doping ( “VADA”) se complacen en anunciar el lanzamiento oficial del Programa Boxeo Limpio ( “CBP”). Bajo el CBP, los primeros quince (15) peleadores calificados en las listas del WBC de todas las divisiones, serán sometidos a pruebas antidopaje para identificar sustancias que mejoren el desempeño físico (PED)  y otros métodos prohibidos; las pruebas serán completamente aleatorias.

El Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, fundado en 1963 y liderado por el Dr. José Sulaimán durante 38 años, es una organización sin fines de lucro dedicada a servir al deporte del boxeo y comprometida con  la implementación de medidas de seguridad para la protección de todos los boxeadores. El objetivo común de la VADA y el WBC es mantener nuestro deporte limpio.

Ningún órgano regulador supervisa boxeadores profesionales. En la actualidad, las pruebas para identificar sustancias PED están limitadas completamente y no existe uniformidad en las distintas jurisdicciones. El presidente del WBC, Mauricio Sulaimán y la presidente de la VADA, Dra. Margaret Goodman, en representación de sus respectivas organizaciones, se han comprometido a concientizar a los peleadores y a toda la comunidad del boxeo sobre los peligros y las consecuencias del uso de sustancias PED. Este objetivo único nos ha llevado a la aplicación de las diferentes facetas del CBP en todo el mundo. El CBP tiene también la intención de informar a los boxeadores sobre los beneficios de distintas  prácticas de nutrición y entrenamiento eficaces.

El CBP ofrece un enfoque de múltiples niveles, iniciando con un seminario web obligatorio titulado “Ganando en Forma Justa con el Programa de Boxeo Limpio”. El seminario informa a todos los boxeadores sobre sus obligaciones  al ser parte del programa CBP y de la documentación necesaria que deberán presentar. También se discute la lista  del CBP/VADA de sustancias prohibidas, los efectos secundarios de sustancias  PED, y los riesgos del uso de suplementos prohibidos.

Los peleadores tendrán una ventana de 90 días,  desde el 9 de mayo, 2016. Durante este periodo tendrán la oportunidad de ver el seminario y de presentar sus formularios de inscripción y demás formatos. Estos puntos, además de todas las políticas, procedimientos y protocolos, podrán encontrarlos en la página oficial del WBC en http://wbcboxing.com/WBCVADA/ . Los peleadores parte del programa CBP, tendrán acceso a expertos y a asesoramiento confidencial.

Este novedoso programa será obligatorio para todos los campeones mundiales del WBC para los primeros quince peleadores clasificados en cada división. El CBP también tiene fondos disponibles para incorporar cualquier otro boxeador que se inscriba en forma voluntaria.

Cada atleta que se someta a las pruebas y otras partes autorizadas del  CBP recibirán una notificación de sus resultados de la prueba.
